Exiting the Herd

"It's not the weak of the herd that falls victim to the lions." he said, sliding some of the photos from the autopsies across the table to her.
"Sixty-eight autopsies and all these animals were perfectly fit."
"Then why did they become separated front the herd?" she asked between bites of her chilli-cheese dog.
"I think they understood their destiny, their roll in things, and made themselves available to their predators."
"You're nuts".
It is when a man comes to the full realisation of his mortality... when the bubbling intellect of his mind floats the unmistakable knowledge, that he is ultimately alone in the universe, that a man separates himself from the herd and gives himself over to the wolves that lie in wait.
